By the time Saturday night is over, we will be a quarter of the way to the playoff cutoff. Yes, eyes will start turning to power points very soon, and there are plenty of games that will surely have big-time postseason implications. Let’s preview a few and make some picks.

Middletown North (1-0) @ Red Bank Catholic (1-0)
The Lions have a dangerous running back in Connor Welsh, who rushed for 115 yards and three scores in last week’s win over Neptune. RBC’s offense is one of the Shore’s most dangerous, lead by quarterback Steve Lubischer, who threw two touchdowns in the Caseys’ dominant win over Middletown South.

The Pick: Red Bank Catholic

St. Joseph (Hamm.) (1-0) @ Holy Spirit (1-0)
Last season’s matchup between the South Jersey non-public rivals resulted in a Holy Spirit upset victory thanks to an overtime field goal. Joe’s running back Qwahsin Townsel rushed for 182 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s win over Mainland.

The Pick: St. Joseph (Hamm.)

[10] Cherokee (1-0) @ [2] Timber Creek (2-0)
Last season, Chargers quarterback Devin Leary threw four touchdown passes in Timber Creek's 28-21 win over the Chiefs. Timber Creek has beaten Cherokee in each of the past three seasons.

The Pick: Timber Creek

Williamstown (1-0) @ St. Augustine Prep (1-1)
St. Augustine Prep quarterback/safety Chris Allen, has already thrown for 215 yard and two touchdowns and picked off three passes on defense. Williamstown wide receiver Wade Inge hauled in seven catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns against Kingsway last week.

The Pick: St. Augustine Prep

Westfield (1-0) @ [15] Ridge (1-0)
Westfield’s state-best 26-game winning streak could be in jeopardy, as the Blue Devils just squeaked past Linden last week. Ridge defensive Ryan Sweeney had two sacks last week and will be a challenging matchup for Westfield.

The Pick: Ridge

[12] Shawnee (0-1) @ Allentown (1-0)
The Central, Group 4 champion Redbirds will make it difficult for Shawnee to pass with a defense that nabbed three picks against Nottingham. The Renegades are looking for a bounce-back win after a heartbreaking overtime loss to Cherokee in their opener.

The Pick: Shawnee

[8] Old Tappan (1-0) @ Pascack Valley (0-1)
Since sweeping the Golden Knights in two meetings in 2014, the Indians have lost the last two games in the rivalry. Old Tappan has a difference maker in running back Marquez Antinori, who scored two touchdowns in last week’s 35-0 win over Paramus.

The Pick: Old Tappan

Hammonton (2-0) @ [11] Rancocas Valley (1-0)
Hammonton kicks of an extremely difficult five-game stretch of away games which also includes games at Williamstown, Cherokee, Millville and Kingsway. Red Devils running back Iverson Clement is one of the WJFL’s top rushers and will be tough for the Blue Devils to contain.

The Pick: Rancocas Valley

West Morris (1-0) @ West Essex (1-0)
Knights running back Will Perez showed how much of a game-breaker he can be last week, returning a kick 79 yards to the house at the buzzer to give West Essex a win over Nutley. The Wolfpack has not started 0-2 since 2007.

The Pick: West Essex

Roxbury (1-0) @ Wayne Hills (1-1)
The Gaels led the Patriots by two touchdowns at the end of the third in last season’s meeting before falling, 42-35. Hills defensive end Jason Modak has 19 tackles and 5 sacks in two games.

The Pick: Wayne Hills
