Paramus Catholic and St. Peter’s Prep showed just how competitive the North Jersey Super Football Conference’s United Red Division is going to be in 2016. It was a back-and-forth affair between the Paladins and Marauders, with PC quarterback Andrew Brito showing just what type of versatile threat he can be in a 28-21 victory. The Paladins signal-caller rushed for three touchdowns, and threw the game-winning 23-yard score to tight end Henry Pearson in the fourth. DT Corey Bolds led the way for PC defensively. St. Peter’s Prep is now 0-1 in the division, while the Paladins got a much-needed bounce-back victory after a close loss to Bergen Catholic last week.

And speaking of the Crusaders, they came up on the short end of the third-straight extra-period game between themselves and the rival St. Joseph (Mont.) Green Knights. Green Knights kicker Angelo Guglielmello hit a 24-yard field goal in double-OT to seal the 17-14 win, but BC had its chances, and got a big day out of QB Johnny Langan, who passed for 270 yards and two touchdowns. Joe’s RB Louis Acceus rushed for 73 yards, while Evan Stewart ran for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Middletown South won a tough 14-13 decision over Rumson-Fair Haven in a matchup between two of the Shore’s heavyweights. DL/LB Jake Krellin had a monster game for the Eagles, notching 14 tackles and aiding an effort that held a high-scoring Rumson offense to 179 yards. Offensively, quarterback Aneesh Agrawal went 11-of-20 for 140 yards, with Jeff Lewandowski hauling in 6 catches for 45.

And if Holy Spirit needed another win over a top-tier opponent to “legitimize” its hot start, it certainly got it in a 14-7 triumph over Delsea. Running back Reggie Jean-Charles was the spark, rushing for 163 yards and two touchdowns. His game-winning score with just over four minutes left to play was set up by a strip-sack by Spartans LB Mason Murphy, which was recovered by DB Joseph Porpora at the Delsea 30. Jean-Charles cashed in from the 1 on the ensuing drive.
